Acehnese Spicy Shrimp Stir-fry

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 red chili peppers, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tomato, cut into wedges
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, and red chili peppers. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the shrimp and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
  4. Stir in the tamarind paste, soy sauce, sugar, salt, and turmeric. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. Pour in the water and add the tomato wedges. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
