Adyghe Khachapuri (circassian Cheese Bread)
Adyghe Khachapuri, also known as Circassian Cheese Bread, is a traditional dish from Circassian cuisine. This savory bread is filled with a delicious mixture of cheeses and baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yogurt and egg, then knead the dough until smooth. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a separate bowl, combine the feta and mozzarella cheeses.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Roll out each portion into a circle.
- Place a portion of the cheese mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges of the dough towards the center, leaving the cheese exposed in the middle.
- Brush the exposed cheese with melted butter.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
