Albanian Burek with Cheese (Burek me Djathë)
Burek me Djathë, or Albanian Burek with Cheese, is a popular savory pastry in Kosovan cuisine. This flaky and delicious dish is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 500g phyllo dough
- 250g feta cheese, crumbled
- 250g ricotta cheese
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the feta cheese, ricotta cheese, and beaten eggs. Season with salt and pepper.
- Unroll the phyllo dough and cut it into 3-inch wide strips.
- Take one strip of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture at one end of the strip.
- Roll the phyllo dough over the cheese mixture to form a triangle-shaped parcel. Continue rolling until all the dough and cheese mixture are used.
- Place the burek on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the tops with more melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the burek is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
