Albanian Meatballs in Tomato Sauce (Qofte të Fërguara)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour the tomato sauce and water over the meatballs. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Serve the meatballs hot, with the tomato sauce spooned over the top.
