Qofte të Fërguara, or Albanian Meatballs in Tomato Sauce, are a traditional dish from Arbëreshë cuisine, which is a unique blend of Italian and Albanian culinary traditions.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
- Pour the tomato sauce and water over the meatballs. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Serve the meatballs hot, with the tomato sauce spooned over the top.
