Alexandria's Seafood Pastry Puffs (فطائر البحرية الإسكندرية)

Ingredients

  • 1 package of puff pastry sheets
  • 200g shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 200g squid, cleaned and sliced into rings
  • 200g white fish fillet, cut into small pieces
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened.
  2. Add the seafood (shrimp, squid, and fish) to the pan, and cook until just opaque.
  3. Season the seafood with cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  4. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  5. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into squares.
  6. Place a spoonful of the seafood mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  7. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg, then fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle. Press the edges to seal.
  8. Place the pastry puffs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the pastry puffs cool slightly before serving.
