Allahabad Ka Matar Ka Nimona (इलाहाबाद का मटर का निमोना)

Ingredients

  • 500g fresh green peas
  • 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
  3. Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add the fresh green peas and stir to coat them with the spice mixture. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour in 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and let the curry simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the peas are tender.
  6. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or Indian bread.
