Almond Cake (torta De Almendras)
Almond Cake, also known as Torta de Almendras, is a traditional dessert from Uruguayan cuisine. This delicious cake is made with ground almonds, giving it a rich and nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea.
Ingredients
- 2 cups ground almonds
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground almonds, sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until frothy. Stir in the melted butter and vanilla extract.
- Gently fold the egg mixture into the dry ingredients until well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the sliced almonds over the top of the batter.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and serve the almond cake at room temperature.
