Alpen Apfelstrudel (alpine Apple Strudel)

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 6 sheets phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and chopped walnuts. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean, dry surface. Brush the sheet with melted butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  4. Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
  5. Spoon the apple mixture along one long edge of the phyllo stack, leaving a border around the edges. Fold the short edges of the phyllo over the filling, then roll the strudel tightly.
