Alpenfreude (alpine Delight)
Alpenfreude, or Alpine Delight, is a traditional Swiss dish that brings together the rich flavors of the Swiss Alps. This hearty and comforting meal is perfect for a cozy night in or a festive gathering with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Swiss cheese, grated
- 1 lb potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup white wine
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle half of the grated Swiss cheese over the potatoes.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and cheese.
- In a small bowl, mix the white wine, minced garlic, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the wine mixture over the potatoes and cheese in the baking dish.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
