Alpine Apricot Dumplings (Alpen Marillenknödel)
Alpen Marillenknödel, or Alpine Apricot Dumplings, are a traditional dish from Liechtenstein that combines the sweetness of apricots with the heartiness of dumplings. These delicious treats are perfect for dessert or a sweet snack.
Ingredients
- 6 ripe apricots
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Pit the apricots and stuff each one with a sugar cube.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, egg, and a pinch of salt to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal parts and wrap each apricot with the dough, forming dumplings.
- Boil a pot of water and gently place the dumplings in the water. Cook for 15-20 minutes.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the breadcrumbs and cinnamon. Cook until golden brown.
- Roll the cooked dumplings in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
- Serve the Alpen Marillenknödel warm and enjoy!
