Ingredients
- 6 cups of cubed bread
- 2 cups of sliced mushrooms
- 1 cup of shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh chives
- 6 large eggs
- 2 1/2 cups of milk
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Place half of the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the mushrooms, Gruyère cheese, Parmesan cheese, and chives. Repeat layers.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour over the bread mixture in the baking dish. Press down on the bread to make sure it is evenly soaked.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and let it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the egg mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
