Amok Trey is a traditional Cambodian dish made with fragrant fish and a rich, creamy coconut curry. This dish is a staple in Cambodian cuisine and is known for its delicate balance of flavors and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets, such as cod or tilapia
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon red curry paste
- 1 tablespoon palm sugar or brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 kaffir lime leaf, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup fresh spinach or banana leaf cups for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the coconut milk, fish sauce, red curry paste, and palm sugar.
- Add the fish fillets to the bowl and marinate for 10 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the marinated fish in a banana leaf cup or a small baking dish.
- Beat the egg and pour it over the fish.
- Top with sliced red bell pepper and kaffir lime leaf.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Serve the fragrant fish amok in the banana leaf cups or on a plate with steamed rice.
