Apfelstrudel (saxon Apple Strudel)
Apfelstrudel is a traditional Saxon dessert made with thinly sliced apples, sugar, and cinnamon, all wrapped in a flaky pastry. This delicious treat is perfect for any occasion and is sure to impress your guests!
Ingredients
- 6 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 6 sheets phyllo dough
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and raisins.
- Place a sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
- Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo dough sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
- Spoon the apple mixture along one long edge of the phyllo stack, leaving a border on the sides.
- Roll the phyllo stack, enclosing the apple mixture, and place it seam-side down on a baking sheet.
- Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
