Ingredients

  • 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 package (2 sheets) refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and flour. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. Spoon the apple filling into the crust.
  4. Top the apple filling with the second pie crust. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  5. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg.
  6. Make several small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
