Apple Strudel (Jablkový štrúdl)
Jablkový štrúdl, also known as Apple Strudel, is a traditional Slovak pastry that is perfect for dessert or a sweet snack. This delicious dessert is made with flaky pastry dough and a sweet apple filling, and it's often enjoyed with a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 package of filo pastry sheets
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and chopped walnuts.
- Place a filo pastry sheet on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
- Repeat the process with 4 more filo pastry sheets, overlapping them slightly.
- Spread the apple filling along one long edge of the pastry, leaving a border around the edges.
- Roll the pastry and tuck in the edges to seal the filling inside.
- Transfer the strudel to a baking sheet and brush the top with melted butter.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
- Let the strudel cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
