Apple Tart (tarta De Manzana)
Apple Tart, or Tarta de Manzana, is a classic dessert from Extremaduran cuisine that is perfect for any occasion. This delicious tart features a buttery crust filled with sweet, cinnamon-spiced apples, and is sure to be a hit with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4-5 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons apricot preserves
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch tart pan. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Arrange the apple slices in concentric circles over the crust, slightly overlapping each other.
- Bake the tart for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
- Warm the apricot preserves in a small saucepan over low heat. Brush the warm preserves over the top of the tart for a glossy finish.
- Allow the tart to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
