Arctic Char Ceviche (Nieriäceviche)
Nieriäceviche is a traditional Sami dish that showcases the fresh flavors of Arctic char in a zesty and refreshing ceviche. This dish is perfect for a light and flavorful appetizer or a refreshing main course.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Arctic char, skinless and boneless, cut into small cubes
- 1 cup fresh lime juice
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1-2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely chopped
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 avocado, diced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a glass or ceramic bowl, combine the Arctic char and lime juice. Make sure the fish is completely submerged in the juice. Cover and refrigerate for about 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and "cooked" by the acidity of the lime juice.
- Once the fish is "cooked," drain off the lime juice. Add the red onion, jalapeño peppers, cilantro, and avocado to the fish. Gently toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Chill the ceviche for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
