Ardei Umpluti (stuffed Bell Peppers)
Ardei Umpluti, or Stuffed Bell Peppers, is a traditional dish in Romani cuisine that is both flavorful and satisfying. The combination of ground meat, rice, and aromatic spices makes this dish a favorite for family gatherings and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the meat mixture and place them in a baking dish.
- Pour the tomato sauce over the stuffed peppers.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the meat is cooked through.
- Serve the stuffed bell peppers hot and enjoy!
