Ingredients
- 6 large Armagh Bramley apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 200g caster sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 250g all-purpose flour
- 125g unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2-3 tbsp cold water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, caster sugar, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, rub the cold diced butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add the beaten egg and 2-3 tablespoons of cold water to the flour mixture, and mix until it forms a dough.
- Roll out two-thirds of the dough on a floured surface and use it to line a 9-inch tart tin.
- Spoon the apple mixture into the lined tart tin.
- Roll out the remaining dough and use it to cover the apples, crimping the edges to seal.
- Make a few small cuts in the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
- Allow the tart to cool slightly before serving.
