Armagh Bramley Apple Tart

Ingredients

  • 6 large Armagh Bramley apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 250g all-purpose flour
  • 125g unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2-3 tbsp cold water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, caster sugar, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, rub the cold diced butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  4. Add the beaten egg and 2-3 tablespoons of cold water to the flour mixture, and mix until it forms a dough.
  5. Roll out two-thirds of the dough on a floured surface and use it to line a 9-inch tart tin.
  6. Spoon the apple mixture into the lined tart tin.
  7. Roll out the remaining dough and use it to cover the apples, crimping the edges to seal.
  8. Make a few small cuts in the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
  10. Allow the tart to cool slightly before serving.
