Ashgabat Cevizli Baklava (ashgabat Walnut Baklava)
Ashgabat Cevizli Baklava is a traditional Turkmen dessert that is rich in flavor and history. This sweet and nutty pastry is a perfect way to end a meal or enjoy with a cup of tea.
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 2 cups of walnuts, chopped
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle a layer of the walnut mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Repeat the layering process with 4 more sheets of phyllo dough and the walnut mixture.
- Finish with 8 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the baklava is baking, combine the water and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 15 minutes, then let it cool.
- Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the honey syrup over the hot baklava.
- Allow the baklava to cool before serving.
