Ashgabat Samsa is a traditional Turkmen pastry filled with savory meat and onions, wrapped in a flaky dough and baked to perfection. This delicious snack is perfect for any occasion and is sure to impress your family and friends.
Ingredients
- 500g ground lamb or beef
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 500g puff pastry dough
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the ground meat, onions, salt, pepper, cumin, and paprika until well combined.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meat mixture and cook until the meat is browned and the onions are soft, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Roll out the puff pastry dough and cut it into 12 equal squares.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each pastry square. Fold the dough over the filling to form a triangle and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the samsas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let the samsas cool for a few minutes before serving.
