Asturian Style Tarta de la Abuela (Grandma's Cake)

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup chopped almonds
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine the flour and milk, then gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the chopped almonds on top.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat. Once hot, pour it over the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Stir until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the chocolate ganache over the cooled cake and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
