Aussie Meat Pie Deluxe

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 sheets of ready-rolled puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, brown the ground beef over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in the carrot and celery, and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add the tomato paste, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened.
  5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  6. Line a pie dish with one sheet of puff pastry.
  7. Pour the meat mixture into the pastry-lined dish.
  8. Place the second sheet of puff pastry over the filling, and press the edges to seal. Trim any excess pastry.
  9. Brush the top of the pie with beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
