Awadhi Dum Paneer (Slow-cooked Paneer Curry)
Slow-cooked Paneer Curry, also known as Awadhi Dum Paneer, is a rich and flavorful dish from the Awadhi cuisine of India. This dish is characterized by its slow cooking process and the use of aromatic spices, creating a creamy and indulgent curry that is perfect for special occasions or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 500g paneer, cubed
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup cashew nuts, ground into a paste
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4-5 green cardamom pods
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the yogurt with the cashew nut paste and set aside.
- Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan and add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cumin seeds. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the ghee separates from the mixture.
- Add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala. Cook for a few minutes.
- Now, add the yogurt and cashew nut mixture. Stir well and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Gently add the cubed paneer and mix carefully to coat the paneer with the sauce.
- Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid and let the curry simmer on low heat for 30-40 minutes.
- Once done, garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
