Baghlava (almond And Pistachio Baklava)
Baghlava is a delicious and rich pastry from Caspian cuisine, made with layers of flaky pastry filled with a sweet and nutty mixture of almonds and pistachios.
Ingredients
- 1 cup almonds, finely chopped
- 1 cup pistachios, finely chopped
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the almonds, pistachios, sugar, and cardamom.
- Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
- Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets.
- Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Continue layering phyllo dough and nuts, brushing each layer with butter, until all the nut mixture is used.
- Cut the pastry into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the pastry is baking, combine the water and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
- When the pastry is done, remove from the oven and pour the honey mixture over the hot pastry.
- Allow the pastry to cool before serving.
