Ingredients

  • 1 cup almonds, finely chopped
  • 1 cup pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the almonds, pistachios, sugar, and cardamom.
  3. Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
  6. Continue layering phyllo dough and nuts, brushing each layer with butter, until all the nut mixture is used.
  7. Cut the pastry into diamond or square shapes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. While the pastry is baking, combine the water and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
  10. When the pastry is done, remove from the oven and pour the honey mixture over the hot pastry.
  11. Allow the pastry to cool before serving.
