Baguette
Baguette is a classic French bread known for its long, thin shape and crispy crust. It is perfect for making sandwiches, serving with soups, or simply enjoying with butter and jam.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, then place it in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 2 equal parts. Shape each part into a long baguette and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Cover the baguettes and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Slash the tops of the baguettes with a sharp knife and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
