Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, then place it in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise for 1 hour.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide it into 2 equal parts. Shape each part into a long baguette and place on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Cover the baguettes and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Slash the tops of the baguettes with a sharp knife and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
