Bahraini Chicken And Date Tagine

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup pitted dates
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken thighs with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat some oil in a tagine or large skillet over medium heat. Brown the chicken on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
  4. Add the cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and turmeric. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. Return the chicken to the skillet. Add the dates and honey.
  7. Cover and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  8. Sprinkle with fresh cilantro before serving.
