Bahraini Chicken Machboos
Bahraini Chicken Machboos is a traditional dish from Bahrain that is packed with flavor and aromatic spices. This one-pot meal is perfect for a hearty family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 4 tomatoes, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons Bahraini spice mix
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 4 cups chicken broth
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, sauté the onions and garlic until golden brown.
- Add the Bahraini spice mix, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg. Stir well to combine.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the diced tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the basmati rice and chicken broth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover the pot and let it simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the chicken is tender.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
