Baked Lazian Lasagna (lasagna Al Forno)
Baked Lazian Lasagna, also known as Lasagna al Forno, is a classic Italian dish that originated in Lazian or Roman cuisine. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450g) lasagna noodles
- 2 cups (500g) ricotta cheese
- 1 cup (100g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup (60ml) red wine
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
- 1 teaspoon (5g) dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, and beaten egg. Mix well and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, red wine, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange a single layer of lasagna noodles on top.
- Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.
