Baked Lazian Lasagna (lasagna Al Forno)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450g) lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups (500g) ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup (100g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) red wine
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, and beaten egg. Mix well and set aside.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  5. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, red wine, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange a single layer of lasagna noodles on top.
  8. Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  11. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.
