Baked Macaroni (imqarrun Il-forn)

Ingredients

  • 500g macaroni
  • 500ml milk
  • 50g butter
  • 50g all-purpose flour
  • 200g grated cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Gradually add the milk to the butter and flour mixture, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 150g of the grated cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, then transfer to a baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining grated cheese on top of the macaroni.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
