Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 2 cups of shelled pistachios
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pulse the pistachios in a food processor until finely chopped.
  3. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of chopped pistachios over the phyllo dough.
  6. Repeat the layering process with 5 sheets of phyllo dough and pistachios, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  7. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. While the baklava is baking, combine the sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan.
  10. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes to make the syrup.
  11. Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava.
  12. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
