Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo pastry sheets
  • 3 cups of chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts with cinnamon.
  3. Layer the phyllo pastry sheets, brushing each sheet with melted butter as you layer.
  4. Sprinkle a layer of the walnut mixture over the phyllo pastry.
  5. Continue layering the phyllo pastry and walnut mixture until all the ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of phyllo pastry.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the baklava is golden and crisp.
  8. While the baklava is baking, make the syrup by combining the sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  9. Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava.
  10. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
