Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 2 cups of shelled pistachios, finely chopped
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the chopped pistachios, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle a layer of the pistachio mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Repeat the layering process with 5 sheets of phyllo and pistachio mixture, ending with a top layer of 10 sheets of phyllo, each brushed with melted butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown and crisp.
- While the baklava is baking, combine the water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot honey syrup over the hot baklava.
- Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
