Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 1/2 cups of chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts with cinnamon and set aside.
  3. Layer the phyllo dough sheets in a baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter as you layer.
  4. Sprinkle a layer of the walnut mixture over the phyllo dough.
  5. Continue layering the phyllo dough and walnut mixture until all the ingredients are used, ending with a final layer of phyllo dough.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the baklava is golden and crisp.
  8. While the baklava is baking, combine the sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes to make the syrup.
  9. Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava.
  10. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
