Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 1/2 cups of unsalted pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of rose water (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped pistachios with cinnamon.
  3. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with 7 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
  5. Sprinkle a thin layer of the pistachio mixture over the phyllo.
  6. Layer 4 sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each with butter, and sprinkle with pistachio mixture. Repeat this process until all the pistachio mixture is used, ending with a top layer of 8 sheets of phyllo, each brushed with butter.
  7. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. While the baklava is baking, make the syrup by combining the sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then add the honey and rose water. Simmer for 15 minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool.
  10. When the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over the hot baklava. Let it cool completely before serving.
