Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups almonds, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the almonds, pistachios, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
  6. Repeat the layers of phyllo dough and nut mixture until all the ingredients are used, ending with a top layer of phyllo dough.
  7. Cut the baklawa into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. While the baklawa is baking, combine the honey, water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  10. Once the baklawa is done, immediately pour the hot honey syrup over the hot pastry.
  11. Allow the baklawa to cool completely before serving.
