Baklawa Bi Fustuk (pistachio Baklava)
Baklawa Bi Fustuk, also known as Pistachio Baklava, is a popular dessert in Levantine cuisine. This sweet and flaky pastry is filled with a delicious pistachio mixture and soaked in a fragrant sugar syrup.
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 1 1/2 cups of unsalted pistachios, finely chopped
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 teaspoon of rose water
- 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped pistachios with the ground cinnamon.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with 7 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each sheet with butter.
- Sprinkle a thin layer of the pistachio mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Layer 4 more sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each sheet with butter.
- Add another layer of the pistachio mixture, then top with 8 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each sheet with butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown.
- While the baklava is baking, prepare the sugar syrup by combining the granulated sugar, water, rose water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot sugar syrup over the hot baklava.
- Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
