Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 3 cups walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  4. Sprinkle a layer of the walnut mixture over the phyllo dough.
  5. Repeat the layers of phyllo dough and walnut mixture until all the ingredients are used, ending with a top layer of phyllo dough.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. While the baklava is baking, combine the water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  9. Once the baklava is done, immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava.
  10. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
