Balinese Minced Satay (sate Lilit)
Balinese Minced Satay (Sate Lilit) is a traditional Balinese dish made with minced meat, coconut, and a blend of aromatic spices. This flavorful and fragrant dish is a popular choice for gatherings and celebrations in Bali.
Ingredients
- 500g minced chicken or pork
- 100g grated coconut
- 4 shallots, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp shrimp paste
- 1 tsp palm sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp ground white pepper
- 4 lemongrass stalks, white part only, finely chopped
- 4 kaffir lime leaves, finely chopped
- 4 tbsp coconut milk
- Bamboo skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the minced meat, grated coconut, shallots, garlic, red chilies, shrimp paste, palm sugar, salt, ground coriander, ground white pepper, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and coconut milk.
- Take a portion of the mixture and wrap it around a bamboo skewer, pressing it to form a cylindrical shape.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and cook the skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side until they are cooked through and golden brown.
- Serve the Balinese Minced Satay hot with steamed rice and sambal matah.
