Balinese Mushrooms in Banana Leaves (Tum Jamur) is a traditional Balinese dish that features a flavorful mixture of mushrooms and aromatic spices, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed to perfection.
Ingredients
- 400g mushrooms, sliced
- 4 shallots, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp shrimp paste
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 4 kaffir lime leaves, thinly sliced
- 4 lemongrass stalks, white part only, thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp coconut milk
- 4 banana leaves, cut into 8 rectangles
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the mushrooms, shallots, garlic, chilies, shrimp paste, salt, sugar, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, and coconut milk until well combined.
- Place 2 banana leaf rectangles on top of each other. Spoon a portion of the mushroom mixture onto the center of the banana leaves.
- Fold the banana leaves to form a neat parcel, then secure with toothpicks.
- Steam the parcels for 25 minutes.
- Once cooked, carefully open the banana leaf parcels and serve the Balinese Mushrooms hot.
