Balinese Pork Satay (sate Babi)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pork shoulder, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the garlic, shallot, coriander, cumin, turmeric, kecap manis, vegetable oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create a marinade.
  2. Add the pork cubes to the marinade, making sure each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated pork onto the soaked skewers.
  4. Grill the pork satay for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
  5. Serve the Balinese Pork Satay hot with steamed rice and sambal sauce.
