Balinese Pork Satay (sate Babi)
Balinese Pork Satay, or Sate Babi, is a popular dish in Balinese cuisine. This flavorful and aromatic dish is perfect for grilling and is often served with a side of rice and a spicy sambal sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb pork shoulder, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 shallot, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the garlic, shallot, coriander, cumin, turmeric, kecap manis, vegetable oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create a marinade.
- Add the pork cubes to the marinade, making sure each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated pork onto the soaked skewers.
- Grill the pork satay for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
- Serve the Balinese Pork Satay hot with steamed rice and sambal sauce.
