Balinese Shredded Chicken (ayam Pelalah)
Balinese Shredded Chicken, also known as Ayam Pelalah, is a traditional dish from the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia. This flavorful and aromatic dish is made with shredded chicken, mixed with a blend of Balinese spices and herbs, resulting in a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 kaffir lime leaves, thinly sliced
- 4 shallots, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chili peppers, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp shrimp paste
- 1 tsp tamarind paste
- 1 tsp palm sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
Instructions
- Boil the chicken breasts in a pot of water until fully cooked, then shred the chicken using two forks.
- In a pan, heat the cooking oil and sauté the shallots, garlic, and chili peppers until fragrant.
- Add the shredded chicken, kaffir lime leaves, shrimp paste, tamarind paste, palm sugar, and salt to the pan. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the flavors meld for a few minutes before serving.
