Balinese Spicy Chicken Satay (sate Plecing Ayam)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into cubes
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 red chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the shallots, garlic, red chilies, turmeric powder, coriander powder, brown sugar, kecap manis, lime juice, and salt to make the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken cubes to the marinade and coat them well. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
  3. Thread the marinated chicken onto the soaked wooden skewers.
  4. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the chicken skewers for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
  5. Serve the Balinese Spicy Chicken Satay hot with steamed rice and sambal plecing (spicy tomato sambal).
