Balinese Spicy Mushroom Satay (sate Plecing Jamur)

Ingredients

  • 500g fresh mushrooms, cleaned and halved
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 3 red chilies, chopped
  • 4 shallots, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon shrimp paste
  • 1 teaspoon palm sugar
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the tamarind paste, red chilies, shallots, garlic, shrimp paste, palm sugar, and salt. Blend until it forms a smooth paste.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the spice paste and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the mushrooms to the pan and stir to coat them with the spice paste. Cook for 8-10 minutes until the mushrooms are tender.
  4. Thread the mushrooms onto skewers and grill for 3-4 minutes on each side until they are slightly charred.
  5. Serve the Balinese Spicy Mushroom Satay hot with steamed rice and sambal for an extra kick.
