Balinese Spicy Satay (sate Plecing)
Balinese Spicy Satay, also known as Sate Plecing, is a traditional dish from the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia. This flavorful and spicy dish is a popular street food and is perfect for those who love a bit of heat in their meals.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) chicken, beef, or tofu, cut into cubes
- 1 cup (240ml) coconut milk
- 4 shallots, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp shrimp paste
- 1 tsp tamarind paste
- 1 tbsp palm sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- Bamboo skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the shallots, garlic, red chilies, shrimp paste, tamarind paste, palm sugar, and salt. Blend until smooth.
- In a bowl, marinate the chicken, beef, or tofu with the blended mixture for at least 1 hour.
- Thread the marinated meat or tofu onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
- Heat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Grill the satay for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked through.
- In a small saucepan, heat the coconut milk until it simmers. Serve the satay with the simmered coconut milk as a dipping sauce.
