Balinese Spicy Tuna Sambal (sambal Be Tongkol)

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of tuna, drained
  • 6 shallots
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 6 red chili peppers
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of tamarind paste
  • 2 tablespoons of palm sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Grind the shallots, garlic, and red chili peppers into a paste using a mortar and pestle or a food processor.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the ground paste to the pan and sauté until fragrant.
  4. Add the drained tuna to the pan and stir well to combine with the spice paste.
  5. Add the tamarind paste, palm sugar, and salt to the pan. Stir and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add the diced tomatoes to the pan and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and serve the Balinese Spicy Tuna Sambal hot with steamed rice.
