Balkan Style Meatballs (Ćevapi)

Ćevapi are a popular dish in Montenegrin cuisine, consisting of small grilled meatballs made from a mixture of beef and lamb, seasoned with a blend of spices. They are typically served with flatbread, chopped onions, and a side of ajvar, a roasted red pepper and eggplant spread.

Balkan Style Meatballs (Ćevapi)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Divide the meat mixture into small portions and shape them into finger-length meatballs.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  4. Grill the Ćevapi for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.
  5. Remove from the grill and serve hot with flatbread, chopped onions, and ajvar.
