Balochi Daal Shorba (tasty Balochi Lentil Soup)
Balochi Daal Shorba is a delicious and hearty lentil soup that originates from the Balochi Cuisine. This flavorful and comforting soup is perfect for a cozy night in or as a starter for a special meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup red lentils
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the red lentils and place them in a pot with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil and add the cumin seeds. Once they start to sizzle, add the chopped onion and green chilies. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and coriander powder to the pan. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the mixture.
- Pour the tomato mixture into the pot of cooked lentils. Add salt to taste and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
