Ingredients

  • 500g beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup kishmish (raisins)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 4 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, heat the cooking oil and add the cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Now add the beef cubes and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  5. Stir in the coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Whisk the yogurt and garam masala together, then add it to the pot. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Pour in the water and bring it to a boil. Then add the soaked rice and kishmish (raisins).
  8. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice and meat are fully cooked.
  9. Once done, fluff the pulao with a fork and serve hot.
