Balochi Murgh Pulao (spicy Balochi Chicken Pilaf)
Balochi Murgh Pulao is a traditional dish from the Balochi cuisine, known for its rich and spicy flavors. This flavorful chicken pilaf is a perfect combination of tender chicken, aromatic rice, and a blend of Balochi spices.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 tomatoes, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a large pot and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the garlic, ginger, and tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add the yogurt, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Stir gently to mix with the chicken and spices.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
